NOVA restaurant week at Mon Ami Gabi

There's still a few days left of Northern Virginia's Restaurant Week with eateries spread throughout the region.  I took advantage of the opportunity and decided to eat at Mon Ami Gabi in the Reston Town Center for dinner with Justin and my grandma. At night, it's beautifully lit with small lights spread throughout the fenced seating. It's a great place for grabbing a meal and sipping on wine after work.  The interior feels like a small restaurant in Paris with large signs sharing wines and daily specials and white table clothes layered on all tables. The table came with an entire baguette in a bag for a French feel. A small pile of stringed carrots dressed with a zesty dressing also arrived before  our appetizers.  We ordered the warm triple cream cheese, which came with sautéed mushrooms, roasted garlic and three pieces of bread all on a skillet. The escargots came topped with a garlic herb butter that made you want to lick the entire dish. Small holes positioned the snails throughout the dish.A french meal meant onion soup was a must order. It came with a gooey layer of gruyére cheese and a delicious tasting soup. Usually this particular appetizer is prepared too salty, but we agreed there wasn't much in Mon Ami Gabi's. Mon-Ami-Gabi-Just-Souled-OutI ordered the Steak Classique, which came topped with a similar sauce from the escargots. French fries and a few leafy greens came on the side. French steak comes prepared much flatter than the average American meat, but don't let it fool your hunger because it's just as filling.White beans and roasted tomatoes encompassed the roasted duck in Justin's dish. It's flavorful, but not something we would order a second time around.Mon-Ami-Gabi-Just-Souled-OutMon-Ami-Gabi-Just-Souled-OutFor dessert, we ate Creme Brulée and Crepe Suzette. While the custard came prepared as ordinary as any dish might taste, the crepe took home the gold. Orange marmalade and a grand marnier sauce added an extra touch to the thin pancake. The only thing that might make this better, another scoop of vanilla ice cream!Mon-Ami-Gabi-Just-Souled-OutThe three courses cost $40.16, so it's questionable if this is really worth venturing for restaurant week depending on what you order. You can still order from the full menu. Other places I contemplated checking out throughout the week: Red's Table, Trummers on Main, Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro, Potomac Bar and Grille, SER Restaurant, Family Meal, Salamander Resort and The Zone.Mon Ami Gabi is located at 11950 Democracy Drive in Reston, VA with several locations throughout the greater Washington DC area. NOVA Restaurant Week runs from March 7-14.
